Dan Harrington - A Famous Poker Legend



It is believed that Texas Holdem is one of the most played games in the whole world. There are many people, who want to try the fantastic excitement that this poker variation provides. If you do not believe me then why do not you visit any of the land based casinos or try playing on the Internet. I am sure that you will be surprised by the great number of people, who regularly play Texas Holdem.

Nowadays, the poker is a whole industry and there are a lot of events, which main object is to make the poker games more accessible for people from different parts of the world. Lets take for example some of the most popular poker tournaments - World Poker Tour and World Series Of poker. These events are of great importance for the poker world, not only because they are the most famous competitions but because they produce poker stars with solid skills. The talent of Dan Harrington was noticed exactly at the World Series Of Poker and since then he is a successful player, respected by everyone.

Dan Harrington was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1945. As a child his interests were not related with the poker game. Dan was fascinated by the backgammon and the chess. He is a former champion backgammon player (Dan won the World Cup of Backgammon in 1980) and in 1971 he won the Massachussetts State Chess Championship. Later, when Harrington went to the Suffolk University he was captivated by the poker game. In interesting fact is that Dan played poker against some famous opponents - Paul Allen and Bill Gates. In the 80s he enjoyed the poker game in the pleasant company of Howard Lederer and Erik Seidel in Mayfair Club.

Dan Harrington made his first poker performance at the World Series of Poker in 1986, but he finished on 24th place. Despite this fact he did his best the next year and his efforts were rewarded. Then he finished on 6th place and took home more than $43,000. One of his greatest wins is in 1995 when he participated in the World Series Of Poker $10,000 No Limit Holdem World Championship. He became the winner with cash prize of $1,000,000. Also in 1995 (actually three days before this fabulous win) Dan finished first in the WSOP $2,500 No Limit Holdem. Another fantastic poker play of Dan Harrington was in 1993 in the WSOP $ 10,000 World Championship Event when he became third.

But the great poker carrier of Dan Harrington is not only at the World Series Of Poker. There are many tournaments in which he participated. Lets take for example the Poker Royale - Battle of the Ages. After winning the Preliminary Match 3 he received the opportunity to measure his strengths with the other players in the Grand Final and he did it. Furthermore, in 2005 Dan Harrington was the winner of the $10,000 2nd Annual Doyle Brunson North American Poker Championship. As you see when it comes to poker Dan knows what to do.

Today, Dan Harringthon lives in Santa Monica, California. He is also a businessman, who enjoy playing on the stock market and he thinks that there are many things in common between the poker and the business. Dan is one of the poker players, who wants to share his poker experience with the other people, who are interested in this game. For that reason he wrote three books on the tournament play - Harrington on Holdem Volume I - Strategic Play, Harrington on Holdem Volume II - The Endgame, Harrington on Holdem Volume III - The Workbook.
