Flop Strategy - One Way To Improve Your Texas Holdem Game

Each poker player knows that we can generally divide the Texas Holdem game into five parts - preflop, flop, turn, river and showdown. The flop is maybe the most important part of the game because here the dealer puts on the table the three community cards and now each gambler can determine whether there is a chance for him/her to create a strong hand and to win the pot. If you learn how to act on the Flop I am sure that your game will become more interesting and profitable. For that reason here you can learn more about the Flop strategy.

In its essence Texas Holdem is a game of skill and the players should consider a lot of things before acting. When the flop is on the table you should answer the following questions - what are the odds (are they favorable or not), the number of your opponents, are there any draws on the board, what are your opponents (loose, passive, tight, aggressive) and what is your position at the table. The answers of these questions will help you to decide whether to raise, call or fold.

Now let me tell you more about the different hands that the players can create on the Flop, because each of them requires different methods of approach. Imagine that you have a strong pair with an Ace kicker. The best thing that you can do is to bet on the flop and wait the turn. It is not recommended to check-raise or raise. If your kicker is bad you can bet out and to learn if your hand is good enough. But remember that if some of the other players bet it is better for you to fold. If you have two pair you can wait and see the turn and then to raise. The situation gets specific if your pair is bigger that the highest card on the Flop - now you should raise in order to take advantage over the rest of the players. Do not worry, if someone raises before you, you can re-raise. We continue with three of a kind - raise this hand carefully and watch out if there are cards which can the other players create higher hands such as straight or flush. If the flop improves your hand but you still need 1 card in order to form straight or flush it is recommended to raise if you can create a solid hand or call if you feel that many people will quit the game.

But what you should do if you already have a complete Texas Holdem hand? If the five cards form a straight remember to play slow and to raise. Most of the players will not believe that you have such a solid hand in this early stage of the game. They can think that you are bluffing. A good strategy is to raise in order to increase the money in the pot if you have a flush. Be careful if you have full house or straight flush. The common thing is to play slow in order to make the other players more confident and then to surprise them with a winning hand.
