TJ Cloutier was born in 1939 and he is a real legend in the poker fields. He spent his childhood at Albany, California. His poker interests are various - he loves playing both Texas Holdem and Omaha in numerous variations. Cloutier received an athletic scholarship for football and baseball and he attended the University of California. In 1959, he showed everyone his sport talent while playing in the Rose Bowl. TJ learnt to play poker when he was in the Army. After the Army he worked in several places (football player in the Canadian Football League for Toronto, in a food company, on the oil rigs in Texas, etc). But soon he realized the fact that playing poker is more profitable and for that reason he quitted and start gambling.
In May, 1985 TJ Cloutier made his first serious poker performance. He took part in the WSOP $10,000 No Limit Holdem World Championship and he finished on second place. Two years later, he won his first WSOP bracelet competing all players at the $1,000 Limit Omaha ($72,000 money reward). Cloutier now has 6 WSOP bracelets - at $1,500 Omaha 8 or Better in 1994, at $2,500 Pot Limit Holdem also in 1994, at $2,500 Omaha Pot Limit in 1998, $1,500 Seven Card Razz in 2004 and at $ 5,000 No Limit Hold'em a year ago. As you can see from his wins list he is a solid player, who has experience in different poker variations.
TJ Cloutier also competed in World Poker Tour - he has several great successes. In 2003 he participated in $ 5,000 No Limit Holdem Main Event and he became third with cash reward of $146,775. Cloutier won first place at the No Limit Holdem WPT competition in 2004. He was the winner of other tournaments during the past years such as Carnivale of Poker, Los Angeles Poker Classic, National Championship of Poker, Legends of Poker, Four Queens Poker and other.
TJ has another passion except the poker tournaments - the writing. In order to share his experience with all poker admirers he and Tom McEvoy wrote for you four books - Championship Tournament Practice Hands, Championship Holdem, Championship Omaha and Championship No-Limit and Pot Limit Holdem. Furthermore, he regularly writes for the famous poker magazine Card Player. An interesting fact is that the starting hand, consisted by Jack-9 of clubs is called on his name.
