Each game has its own glossary and it is really important to be familiar with it. The glossary is a crucial part of the game. Do not think that it is something that is something of small importance. Learning these special words will be a guarantee that you will understand everything at the Texas Holdem table.A
Act - you act when you want to deceive the other participants at the Texas Holdem table.
Action - this means that a lot of people make their wagers at the table
Add On - you can use this option if you want to receive more chips during any of the Texas Holdem tournaments.
All-in - this is when you bet all your chips.
Aggressive - this is a definition for players, who raise each hand.
Angle - this actions does not break the rules, but it includes phoney tricks.
Ante - This is the pot - all the money that is wagered.
Automatic Shuffler - this is an automated device, which shuffles cards.
B
Backdoor - not to make the hand that you intended, but to make another.
Bad Beat - this means that a solid hand is beat by a longshot draw.
Bankroll - the bankroll represents the money you have.
Bicycle or Bike - if you have 2,3,4,5 and A.
Big Blind - The player, who is sitting to the left side of the dealer is called the Big Blind. He (she) is obligated to post a blind before the dealing of the cards.
Blank - In Texas Holdem Blank means useless card
Blind - this is a bet, which is obligatory and has to be placed before the deal of the cards.
Bluff - a strategy, which is used by players to deceive their rivals.
Boat - Boat is to have Full House.
Board - the board are the community cards that are putted face up in Texas Holdem.
Bottom Dealing - type of cheating, used at land based casinos. Here, instead dealing the top card, the dealer gives the player the bottom card.
Bounty - some tournaments have an option, which permits you to win some money, if you eliminate certain players and this option is called bounty.
Bubble - as you know, the winners in a tournament receive cash rewards. The bubble is the player, who is the first after the winners, who does not get a portion of the prize pool.
Burn Card - this is the top card. The dealer removes it from the deck before dealing the Flop, the Turn and the River in order to reduce cheating.
Button - this is a sign, which indicates your position according to the dealer.
Buy-In - this is a fee, that you have to pay in order to take part in a tournament.
C
Call - you call when you match the amount of the bet.
Calling Station - another definition for players, who calls almost each time.
Cap or Capping - if you prefer to play limit Texas Holdem, betting the maximum amount of money that is allows is called Cap.
Capped - In Limit games when the maximum amount of raises is reached, betting is no longer allowed.
Card Cap - Card cap (also known as marker) is a small object that players put on their cards. By this way they indicate that their hand is active.
Cards Speak - this is a rule in Texas Holdem, which says that your cards are the best combination, no matter whether you will lose or win.
Cash Out - you have to cash out when you decide to leave the game.
Changing Gears - to change your gears means to change your game style.
Check - you can check in order to stay in the game but not bet.
Check-Out - this means to fold although you have the chance to check.
Check-Raise - to check and then to re-raise the bet.
Chip(s) - chips are the small disks that you use when you make your bets. In fact chips represent a certain amount of money. You have to buy chips if you want to play Texas Holdem at the casinos.
Chip Shuffling - a trick made with chips.
Chop - the meaning of chop is to split the pot.
Clubs - this is one of the card suits.
Coffee Housing - this is when the players talk about a hand, which is not over.
Collusion - this is a form of cheating. When two or more players play together in order to beat the other participants and then to split the money.
Community Cards - these are the cards, placed in the center of the table. Community cards can be seen by each player.
Connected - In Texas Holdem connected means two pocket cards in sequence
Cover - to have larger number of chips that some of your opponents.
Crazy Pineapple - Texas Holdem variation.
Cutoff - The player, who is sitting to the right side of the dealer.
D
Dead Button - when the big blind is not posted or eliminated.
Dealer - a person, who deals the cards, distributes the winnings and who is responsible for the smooth running of the game.
Deck Change - to change one deck of cards for another.
Diamonds - another suit of cards.
Dominated Hands - this is a hand, which is good to play, but you will lose if you play against player with similar cards if your hand is not improved.
Double Flop Holdem - another variation of Texas Holdem.
Draw - The first meaning of this word is an outcome of the game, in which the pot must be split, because there is more than one winner. The second meanings is to pull a card out of the deck.
Drawing - to play a hand that you want to improve.
Drawing Dead - this is a unfavorable hand and you have not a chance to win, even if you improve your cards
Drawing Hand means a hand, which have to be improved in order to win.
E
Early Position - to be in an early position - to be one of the first players, who have to act after the deal.
